Yoga and the way to the Universe

All the orthodox systems of Indian Philosophy have one goal in view, the liberation of the soul through perfection. The method is by Yoga.

– Swami Vivekananda.

A modern way to express the action of the mind is to say that thinking is the recycling of the data that you have already gathered. It is a fascinating and absorbing approach and generates a desire to go deeper in the investigation of its truth.

When we read and contemplate the aphorisms of Patanjali and determined to understand their meaning, we find many different interpretations. These create a challenge and make the significance of the nature of yoga a bit harder to comprehend.

Most likely, the most common aphorism used in the teaching community is the definition of yoga as “Yogas chitta vritti nirodha” . You must have heard it many times, and its many standard definitions of non-thinking, and most likely you must have wondered, how could this be possible?  – Author Barbara Stoller Miller refers to this Sutra as the “cessation of the turnings of thought.” Let’s elaborate further.

Pranayama and the Mind Connection

Anga is the Sanskrit term used for limb, and Pranayama is described as the fourth rung in the science of yoga. It is an important joint in the yogic system and perhaps the most transcendental in the path of many practitioners. Although Sri Patanjali Maharishi mentioned it only three times in his yoga aphorisms; he refers this practice as the one who can finally uncover the polluted layers of chitta [though-wave]. This practice has the potential to purify thoughts and make them fit for the first meditative state called Dharana, which is the practice of deep focusing; prior entering the mental expansiveness state of Dhyana which is a yogic meditation.

You can refer to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali for more information, look for the Sutras 3.1 deshah bandhah chittasya dharana and 3.2 tatra pratyaya ekatanata dhyanam.

Patanjali Maharishi understands that the one who is reading his aphorisms is a practitioner who has already obtained a higher level of awareness. The whole process has the potential to help you realize the possibility to know the entire universe, and it is trough the practice of Pranayama that the practitioner could reach this goal.

In others words, yogis only need to know themselves. It is accessible to them because they are it, and the Pranayama anga could facilitate this realization.

Self-realization is the gift of your yoga practice. Always pay attention to the nature of your existence. Learn to discriminate the impulse of your thoughts, the reason of your beliefs, the nature of your habits or ideas of perception, conception, and intellect. Yogis say it is the closest and fastest way to realize the vast universe within yourself.

Perhaps if you experience a profound and lasting inner peace without any interruption due to distraction and the pulling of your tendencies (samskaras), you could be able to say that somehow you have experienced Self-realization.

Lastly, as my teacher said, a yogi does not believe anything. The only way a yogi believes is when whatever it is, has been experienced within.

A Quick Post – Decisions

Results in life don’t come from being motivated only, results in life come because of action. We always need to remember that activity without a purpose is a drain to our lives. Stop for a second and ask yourself: What is the decision that will shift you? – In other words, what are you going to do so that this ruling is not mere than a story but is real?
Do you want to change your life? Plan, Commit, and Act – Success requires no apologies.

Becoming the Very Best Version of Yourself – Critical Thinking

I am continuing with the series about how to become a better YOU. This time, I am touching upon critical thinking.

Thinking critically is a matter of attention. It is a way to be able to utilize your mental awareness and realize that a thinking process is in progress.

Begin by practicing awareness every time you choose to think about a particular topic.

Realizing that your mind is thinking is the first step.

Basic critical thinking is composed of these six basic skills:

  1. Interpretation: “Do you know what I mean?” asked Ruben, one of the participants who attended the Leadership through Safety Awareness Workshop I presented at my company last week. As I was looking into his eyes, I could see he was still confused about his new role. After talking for a few minutes, we were able to dissipate his concerns and doubts. I realized that the information I presented triggered some self-doubts in him that distracted him and made him too uncomfortable to communicate the true meaning of the information he had learned to others. We worked together for about five minutes and at the end, he was able to tune into his interpretation skills beyond self-judgment and focus only on mental awareness. To think critically means to directly analyze and or evaluate information beyond any sense of self-judgment. It enables you to have the ability to think outside the box and to drop any sense of judgment towards oneself. Always try to be present when you are thinking.
  2. Analysis: This refers to the ability to “read between the lines.” It is to possess the capacity to connect the pieces of information given and determine their true meaning.
  3. Inference: The ability to understand and recognize the elements needed to determine an accurate conclusion. Interpretation and inference work hand in hand, and you can use this simple skill to become more precise in your interaction with others.
  4. Evaluation: Ask yourself this question: How credible are my expressions of my experience? How factual are my opinions? Do I exaggerate to make my inputs more impressive?Evaluate your interactions with others with impartiality. You are not looking for deficiencies to bring yourself down; it is quite the opposite, you are looking for clues for where to make corrections that will help you become a more interesting person, the type of person whose sense of self-evaluation is based on growth and well-being.
  5. Explanation: It is important to know that not everyone has or needs the level of information you have. To become a better communicator requires attention. It requires patience and self-awareness.On our journey to become the very best version of ourselves, we want to have the courage to face ourselves and ask: Do I communicate well? Am I correctly and frequently saying what I mean?Learn through practice to identify your level of communication with others. Ultimately, remember that one of the best tools to communicate is to become a better listener.
  6. Self-Regulation: Thinking critically is a matter of attention and self-regulation is an ally. Self-regulation is the skill that allows you to have an awareness of your thinking process. It is the skill that helps you develop greater abilities to connect the proper elements of information to obtain the desired results. Sometimes we allow our self-interest to play a factor in what we decide to understand. It is very dangerous because it can make our progress more difficult. Critical thinking is an extension of communication and to self-regulate our personal biases is crucial for a successful interaction with others.

Getting unstuck is a life process, therefore make life simple again. Allow for the opportunity to free yourself from self-limiting beliefs through the practice of critical thinking when it comes to interaction with yourself and others.

What can we do to make life simple again? Think about it.

Becoming the Very Best Version of Yourself

Seven Easy Keys

Leaders must understand their goals and resolve to enter a state of discipline based on their desire to lead consciously.

Years ago, as I entered the world of self-improvement, I never knew how to handle the amount of new information. It was a huge source of incoming energy in the form of eye-opening discovery. It was as if all of a sudden I was given a huge bundle of information that I needed to absorb and digest in just a few weeks. I used to drive my car while listening to the wisdom of people such as Seneca the Stoic, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Tony Robbins and even lectures by Paramahansa Yogananda.

My radio stations became centers of lectures and interviews. I had CDs with absolutely no music other than the music at the beginning of their material presentation. I used to read many books, all kinds, (I still do) and I dedicated my time to assimilating all this new information. Those were indeed pretty exciting times for me.

Technology has changed and the way we receive information is tremendously different these days. More than ever we possess the freedom to do the most exhaustive research on our smartphones. It is a whole new world, a new world of infinite possibilities and opportunities to do, say and act in any way possible.

Humanity is evolving and changing very fast, and it is time to commit to work on ourselves, to understand that we must be greater than our fears, limiting beliefs, false ideas, and self-imposed barriers. It is time to become the very best version of ourselves.

I will divide this into seven different posts so we can make it more digestible while respecting everyone’s time. I will be posting on a weekly basis and providing other interesting material for your reading pleasure.

  1. Become a Better Listener
  2. Improve Your Critical Thinking Techniques
  3. Sharpen Your Communication Skills
  4. Practice Patience
  5. Control of Mind and Emotions
  6. Develop Healthier Sleeping Patterns
  7. (SPA )Study, Plan, and Act Everyday

Key Number One: Better Listener

Next time you spend time with a friend or with someone you love or even with the stranger on the train who tries to start up a conversation with you by mentioning the weather. Pay attention! Be present by creating a direct contact. Develop sensitivity and understand that every person needs attention when it comes to communicating.

Better listeners are considered to have a gift, the gift of patience (the fourth step). If you are an individual who thinks you don’t have a lot of patience or much time to waste, you can still practice good listening. Set aside time and communicate to the other person that you will be paying undivided attention to them for five minutes or so and that you are willing to discuss their issue within the allotted time.

The idea is to be completely present and to listen carefully Many people are just looking to be heard. One of the greatest gifts you can give someone is your undivided attention through a period of uninterrupted time. Abstain from giving advice right away and instead, discuss the issue in a collaborative way where the person wanting to communicate can listen to himself or herself and perhaps obtain their own answer.

Listening consciously is challenging but not impossible if you start practicing one minute at a time. Ultimately, it is better, to be honest, and tell the other person you can’t listen to them right now than to listen half- heartedly. This way you will show them more consideration and respect.

In an article published in the LA Times, author Robert Lee Hotz reported – “Understanding whether differences in mental capacity or intellectual ability can be attributed to gender has long confounded scientists, parents, equal rights activists and educators.”

To be sure, men’s and women’s brains are more alike than not, but they are not the same–in size, sense or sensibilities – disregard gender, don’t justify your sense of attention because of that. Be human, that is it.

Ultimately, leaders must listen actively; listening goes well beyond being quiet and giving someone your full attention. Listening requires you to be aware of body language, facial expressions, mood, and natural behavioral tendencies.

In the science of yoga, care is critical for the development of meditation, also known as Dharana. According to Eastern psychology, it is possible to attain a further state of attention wherein all other mental movement stops. At this point, the mind ‘becomes one’ with the essential nature of the object of concentration, (listening).

What Moves You

They were good friends, he was probably in his 60s, and the other was approaching his 30s – they had one thing in common – they were both enamored with the idea of living in nature and spending their time creating and cultivating their passion while providing their families with all the necessary and enough to have a comfortable life.

The older had realized his dream already. He was living on the shores of Anse Lazio, on the northwest tip of Praslin Island, on the western coast of Africa.

I tried many times, but I can’t seem to make this work. I feel tired, and I have lost my fire, the young man told his older friend while walking by the ocean of such an amazing island.

How hard do you want to succeed? – Albert asked, – how hard do you believe that you can make your dreams come true?

What do you mean? – replied the young and confused Timothy. I try hard, but I feel as if there is no time to make my dream come true. I work long hours, take care of my family, and the few hours left, I am exhausted and just want to go to sleep.

A deep and long silence followed the conversation; only the waves’ soothing sound could be noticed. As they were getting closer to the water, Albert stopped and stared at the forgiving waves’ wonderful and pristine blue.

Tim, he said, as he walked in the water. I want you to take a good look at this ocean. It is calm and beautiful; it is an ocean that promises nothing but serene and warm waters to its visitors and swimmers. However, it has a scary secret that only the few who have experienced it; know well. Although it is not really deadly, it can bring an intense experience.

Many years ago, when I decided it was time for me to follow my dream, I decided that I would not be on my own way, that I would find methods and techniques for me to be successful in my own world.

Come with me, Tim – he asked and gently grabbed him by the shoulder, as they both began to walk deeper in the water.

It is a nice beach, Al, you are lucky to live here.

Come on! Follow me, Tim. Let’s swim for a while.

They both started swimming towards a small sandbank. On the way to it, Albert decided to suddenly stop just to ask Tim one more time – Tim, how much do you want your dream to come true?

I want it very much, Al – he said. At this point, the water was up to their chests.

Tim, how much do you want your dream to come true?

I said I want it very much; why?

Keep walking towards the sandbank and tell me how much you want your dream to come true.

I want it bad, really bad! – responded Tim, almost screaming as a result of the constant questioning of his friend.

Timothy, imagine the sandbank is your dream, and it is the place you long to be at; therefore, keep walking and reach to it; and when you are on top, I want you to scream out loud how bad you want your dream to come true.

As Tim began to walk towards the sandbank, suddenly, he found himself in turbulent waters, not knowing how to react. The strong current began to tumble him, and while gasping for air, he was also screaming for help.

Only a few seconds later, seconds that felt like hours, Tim found himself at the sandbank, where his old friend Albert was already waiting for him and laughing hysterically.

Are you ok, Tim? – he asked.

..yeah, I am alright… wow! That was very scary!

I know – Albert replied while helping his friend to stand up.

This is the secret I was telling you about, a secret that only those who have experienced it know about.

These are relatively shallow waters but under them run the reminisce of the East Australian current, a flow of water that runs south along the east coast of Australia. This current allows thousands of marine turtles to get a “free ride” to get from one place to another. It is pretty beautiful and wild.

Yeah, and intense! – Tim said while abruptly shaking his hair.

As Tim recovered from this rough experience, Albert began to walk to the other side of the bank and said to his friend – Remember when I asked you how bad do you want your dream to come true?

Yes! – replied Tim as he was trying to catch up with his friend’s fast pace.

You were telling me that you wanted it really bad, right?

 Yeah, I did!

Let me tell you, dear friend, you did not want them really bad because you were on safe grounds, and you knew you were safe.

Tim, for you to be sure of what you want, you need to want your dream so bad that it feels like those moments you were desperately gasping for air. In those moments, you did the impossible for you to survive. The same primal need for survival you had while being hit by the hidden current, you must-have for your dreams to come true. You need to want them so bad that without them is like an eternity underwater. You must, my dear friend, be hungry for success.

The Message – Keep Yourself Motivated

The story above is simple but carries a true message. While there are millions of people living a so-called normal life – most of them are likely living within their own comfort zone (and nothing is wrong with it, as long as their lives are meaningful for them); others are simply trying to figure out what to do with theirs. Motivation is a key factor in the complex equation of success. I am still trapped in between the zone of motivation and action. On top, procrastination can add a serious complication.

In his classic The Now Habit book, author Neil Fiore explains: “Procrastination is not the cause of our problems with accomplishing tasks; it is an attempt to resolve a variety of underlying issues, including low self-esteem, perfectionism, fear of failure and of success, indecisiveness, an imbalance between work and play, ineffective goal-setting, and negative concepts about work and yourself.”

There is also the other side of the spectrum – the reached goal – once the person has reached their goal, there is no further motivation. The individual becomes comfortable, and the drive is lost. There is no more motivation. This is perhaps because the promise of the reward is gone, or the threat of punishment is no longer valid.

Although we all want to be rewarded for our good deeds and actions, the key to maintaining a driving force is to merely focus on the pleasure and the thrill of getting work done. In other words, the trick to motivation is to find the intrinsic reward in our work to enjoy it and not focus on the final reward or the effects of the self-mental punishment for not fulfilling such work.

To keep yourself motivated, the first thing you want to focus on is happiness, which comes with progress. There is initiative and direction when there is motivation, you develop courage, your energy improves, and therefore your persistence to follow your goals.

If you want to strengthen your motivation, I recommend the following:

  1. Set a goal. The best way to manage your goals is to split them into smaller tasks and enjoy the progress of reaching them. This will bring you happiness and feed your drive to keep moving forward.
  2. Constantly affirm to yourself that you can and will succeed. Keep repeating this fact throughout your day.
  3. Avoid procrastination. Meditate upon the things that keep you stuck and work on them one by one. Procrastination leads to laziness, and laziness leads to a lack of motivation.
  4. Measure improvement. Analyze yourself and witness your personal growth. This is a thermometer that will contribute to helping you see how healthy is your progress. Be honest with yourself, and do not hesitate to make small changes in your approach if necessary.
  5. Exercise regularly. I recommend the practice of asana yoga. Studies have shown that practicing light yet deep core body movement as done in the asana yoga practice, a protein referred to as a BDNF which travels in the bloodstream, stimulates both the nervous system and cognitive systems, developing an increase in memory and focus, which are also fundamental for motivation.
  6. Last but not least, study, read, or exercise your brain with puzzles. Being human is an exceptional experience. We are the only animals that know that we know. We have a higher state of awareness, and we can train our muscle brain by providing it more information to work on more functions. The more we exercise our brains, the stronger they function.

The amount of motivation is equivalent to the amount of happiness you can bring to its results to finalize. Remain focused and understand yourself, figure out what moves you, and develop the primal need for survival when it comes to accomplishing your goals and turning your dreams into reality.

The Social Self

When it comes to self-control, we’ve seen that the human mind is not one unified itself, but multiple selves who compete for control. There’s is the self who wants immediate gratification and the self who remembers your bigger goals. There is your present self, who may or may not seem to have much in common with our future self. As if that weren’t a crowded enough crew, it turns out that you have few other people living in your head too. No, I am not talking about multiple personality disorder – I am talking about your parents, your spouse, your children, your friends, your boss, and everyone else who is part of your everyday world.

As humans, we are wired to connect with others, and our brains have adapted a nifty way to make sure we do. We have specialized brain cells – called mirror neurons – whose sole purpose is to keep track of what other people are thinking, feeling, and doing. These mirror neurons are sprinkled throughout the brain to help us understand the full range of other people’s experiences.
For example, imagine you and I are in the kitchen, and you see me reach my right hand for

For example, imagine you and I are in the kitchen, and you see me reach my right hand for knife. Your brain will automatically begin to encode this movement. The mirror neurons that correspond to movement  and sensation in your right hand will be activated. In this way, your brain begins to craft an inner representation of what I am doing. The mirror neurons recreate the movement like a detective might reenact a crime scene, trying to understand what happened and why. This allows you to guess why I’m reaching for a knife, and what might happen next. Am I going to attack you? Or is my intent victim the lemon pie on the counter?

Let’s say I accidentally slice my right thumb as I grab the knife. Ouch! As you see this happen, mirror neurons in the pain regions of your brain will respond. You will wince and know immediately what I am feeling The experience of pain is so real to the brain that the nerves in your spinal cord will even attempt to suppress incoming pain signals from your own right hand – just as if you had actually cut your hand! This is the empathy instinct  that helps us understand and respond to other people’s feelings.

After i bandage my thumb and serve myself a slice of the lemon pie, the mirror neurons in the reward system of your brain will be activated. Even if you don’t like lemon pie yourself, if you know that it is my favorite (true), your brain will start anticipating a reward. When our mirror neurons encode the promise of rewards in others, we long for a treat ourselves. This is really powerful and we can actually take advantage of this wonderful and natural system to improve our own rewards when it comes to creating mirror neurons in the positive actions of our existence.

Authentic Self

In his book The One Thing, author Gary Keller reveals a question: what is the one thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary? – Let’s think about that for a minute.

One can say that authentic self is the simplicity of a human behavior with the sole purpose of feeling almost unaware of that state of being. Being yourself is an inherited state of simplicity involved in a turmoil of constant self-gratification. It is the phenomena of single authentic behavior.

In a world where individuals are in constant inner arrangements to simply adapt and act as per their daily life situations, being one self; is constantly compromised by external factors and circumstances.

We tend to repress our authentic self to fit in without even realizing it, hence the lack of satisfaction of the majority of people who are constantly struggling to find a position in this world.

 What do we do?

Take for instance social media, TV networks, physical practices, even some spiritual practices, all diet trends – what do they do to us? – How do they affect our deeper wants and desires? –  The messages we constantly receive are building solid blocks of beliefs. They manipulate their meaning to construct a world of un-authentic individuals, a world of individuals who are constantly looking for reassurance and acceptance.

Learning to think critically is a defining factor in finding your authentic self. The secret to true happiness lies in knowing who you really are and in creating progress utilizing genuine action based on the inherent sense of self.

Freedom and connecting with our authentic self

Moving, expressing and thinking freely is the ultimate sense of liberation encountered in all living beings. Although the way they “think” is not at the level of the humans; they do posses consciousness and as such, they cannot be anything but the consciousness of what they are. Can you be a tree? Can you be a marine turtle? The fact that consciousness cannot be divided to become someone or something when it already resides in a particular being, it gives us the answer to express freedom. A bird is free and it simply does what is supposed to do, it flies from one place to another, and its only motivation is to survive and keep living. In the human being, the sense of freedom must come with a bigger sense of responsibility and although we strive for survival, ours is somehow conditioned.

Ways to connect and be your authentic self – 4 Basic Strategies

1.Dare to be You

This is a simple yet challenging way as it entails to go beyond any fears of limiting beliefs. Daring to be yourself is about allowing others to see the real, raw authentic you. No need to be nice and or apologetic to express yourself. Here you need to stand out from others and have your own opinion. Things you can practice are to tell yourself constantly that who you are is good enough, that you are original.

2. Love Yourself

Taking care of yourself can make you feel good and is a sign of self-respect. Some people tend to be individuals who tend to forget  about their own self and focus on others. Although is noble and altruistic to think about the well-being of others, the priority should be focused on your self first so you can be healthy in order to be of help for others. Few simple things you can do: eat well, sleep well, exercise daily, read motivational books, learn how to breathe properly and meditate.

3.Make Choices Based on your own dreams

Everybody has a dream or many dreams. We feel excited when we talk about them, we feel exhilarated when we think about the possibility of making these dreams come true. These sensations and emotions are the natural response of our true callings; it is the affirmative response of our soul. Make them happen, plan accordingly. Understand clearly what you want, have definite of purpose and create a plan of action, a plan that is flexible and ready to adapt to anything as you walk the path towards your authenticity. The choices you make must be based on the fact that you want to connect with yourself. They must be in support of aligning your life with your most intimate sense of authenticity.

 The One Thing

It is really hard to be able to apply authenticity to more than 7.4 billion in the world and perhaps it is also difficult to come out with an answer to the original question at the beginning of this article; however, there is only one thing that we all know, and it is the fact that we know that we know. There is only one thing we feel, and it is our sense of being and as such, due to free will, we can decide to drop all influences, limiting beliefs and wrong ideas of separation, and unite in order to support each other’s authenticity.

Be your Self, because is yours and it is authentic, unique and amazing.

Staying Focused

Isabel Myers was the founder of the Myers & Briggs Foundation for personality and the developer of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®. She was an avid follower of Carl Jung,  the Swiss psychiatrist, and founder of the school of analytical psychology.

I have been reading Carl Jung since my early 20’s, and I find his readings really fascinating. However; I tend to gravitate towards simpler concepts when it comes to behavioral psychology. Isabel Myers’ approach to the study of personality and the understanding of human development is a lot simpler.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® explains that the Development and applications of psychological type, are founded on the idea that understanding your type can help you:

(a) appreciate your own strengths, gifts, and potential developmental needs, and

(b) help you understand and appreciate how other people may differ from you.

Understanding your strengths and gifts is a key for their appreciation

Lots of us get involved in daily activities, projects and different situations that simply rob us from leading our lives to higher standards, therefore; jeopardizing our true and honest desires to do what we love.

We normally get entangled in a series of multitasking activities and our lives seem to be saturated with stressful responsibilities, relationships, and a series of sometimes nonsense matters.

We want to accomplish many things at once thinking that multitasking will allow us to produce more and save time. This is not true, however.

One must remain focused and with a definite purpose in mind in order to accomplish wholesome results. It also important  to know our capacities and push them a little in order to build the necessary strength.

This is the point of appreciation for when we accomplish what we want, we will realize that we have utilized commitment and perseverance. Accomplishing our goals will add more confidence in one’s own worth or abilities; leading to self-respect and self- reassurance.

Finding our Purpose

George Bernard Shaw has a great quote. He says: “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself” – It is important to always understand ourselves and the reason for our actions. I know it is not easy. I have experienced moments in life where I have asked myself why is it, that I do what I do? – and many, many times I don’t really know the reasons.

Taking time to stop and invest some moments in introspection is an excellent practice. It will allow you to spend quality time with your mind and perhaps to even have a great conversation with your thoughts, allowing you in a moment to recognize any negative patterns. This is the practice of meeting your Self to find your Self.

Getting to learn about your needs is also critical for psychological balance. Living a chaotic life due to resentment and frustration for not fulfilling your needs, will create a domino effect that eventually will interfere with all your external relationships as well.

Per Carl Jung, people are either born with or develop, certain preferred ways of perceiving and deciding. In my case, I want to say that I tend to make decisions based on my emotional state but my sense of perception is most of the time from the intellectual viewpoint. Every single person is different but the are all looking for the same thing: happiness.

Happiness is the ultimate goal – but without a purpose, it could become a very misleading act that can actually bring nothing but frustration and therefore throwing you back in an endless loop of  dissatisfaction.

What Do you Want?

Ask yourself what do I want? Consider many scenarios and list them and feel them in your body. Feel what resonates with you.

It is necessary to learn to obtain happiness while walking the path of fulfillment. You will not find happiness at the end of your journey. It will only be satisfaction because there will always be room for more. Success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure in life.

We need to find a sense of purpose, we need to learn and know what we want. We need to feel what make our heart energy vibrate when we think about our purpose in life. This purpose must be aligned with what you value in life. When you realize what you want, then make a plan to fulfill your want and stick to it until you have accomplished it.

Lots of people get on the bus of life and stay focused on the minor details that only bring dissatisfaction and frustration. They never dare to look at the windows and enjoy the landscape of their journey.

Live a life of meaning which means have a sense of motivation. What is it that you like to do? We as a society have been evolving exponentially and no longer need be to tie to its demands. (if we don’t want to)

We now possess freedom of information. Freedom to be whoever we want to be and do whatever we want to do.

We as a society, no longer need to fulfill expectations – we just don’t have to anymore. We are free and able to fulfill our dreams and goals if we stick to both, our purpose and plan.

Lastly, go through the boredom you will encounter on your path to success. Endure, don’t stop, don’t give up, embrace your daily practice and you will achieve your goals.

By staying true to your purpose, you will be able to step out of any type indicators, this way you will simply appreciate your strength and the diversity in others.

When Doubts Pretend To Keep You Safe

“What do you want? What do you want?” he repeated to himself. “What do I want? To live and not to suffer,” he answered. And again he listened with such concentrated attention that even his pain did not distract him. “To live? How?” asked his inner voice. “Why, to live as I used to—well and pleasantly.” “As you lived before, well and pleasantly?” the voice repeated. And in imagination, he began to recall the best moments of his pleasant life.”
― Leo Tolstoy, The Death of Ivan Ilyich

What do you want? It is an original question. It carries a significant level of responsibility and requires an intrinsical state of clarity when it comes to responding to its daring power.

We all have our dreams and goals, some of us dream of writing a book, of moving to Hawaii, some of us dream of hiking the Himalayas, or even living by the ocean while enjoying the success of our foreign profitable business.

These are all very motivating dreams, and in fact, they can all be attainable.

What is that powerful force that stops you from accomplishing them? DOUBT.

When Leonardo DaVinci past away, his last words were: “I have offended mankind because my work did not reach the quality that it should have” – Unbelievable! Don’t you think?

Mr. DaVinci himself had doubts as well. The difference between DaVinci’s mind and the minds of the ones who doubt is that he never stopped creating. He probably enjoyed his work immensely and cultivated passion in it.

There is a difference between finding your passion and cultivating one. A lot of people have difficulties finding their “true” calling, and sadly most of them never find it and continue living a life of frustrated dreams.

The main reason for this is because passion can never be found, it can only be created and cultivated based on individual qualities. Qualities that every single one of us possesses.

The only distance that separates our passion from our dreams and goals is the distance of doubt. Unfortunately, for most of the people, doubt is easier to be brought up to the surface of their minds than their dreams and goals.

A very disturbing fact of doubt is that it pretends to keep you safe. Although psychologically feeling safe is a good thing, it might not be productive in the creation of a better reality for yourself.

It is a fact that man is the only animal that “knows that he knows” and that is what makes him human and also vulnerable to adverse influence which is typically picked up during childhood.

Doubts don’t keep you safe; instead, they keep you fooled and steal your potential of becoming a much better and successful human being.

Awareness is the perfect weapon to catch your mind when it is telling you lies about what and who you are and to stop the inherent potential to succeed that you already possess in your brain and mind.

Be alert and next time you are listening to the thoughts in your mind and feeling that they are not in cooperation with your desired state, act immediately and do the very best to move towards a better mental space .

A very simple way to counteract the effect of negative thinking is by asking yourself where is this thought coming from? Where did I learn that this is true? Did I experience the memory of this view?

Most likely, all these thoughts and views will be a bunch of self-defeating beliefs that somehow got deep into your subconscious and made you believe that they are valid even if you never experienced them.

What are your goals and dreams? Can you make them happen?

Freedom to know what you want – The Power of Incremental Change

“Those who depart from this world without knowing who they are or what they truly desire have no freedom here or hereafter. But those who leave here knowing who they are and what they truly desire have freedom everywhere, both in this world and in the next.
The Chandogya Upanishad VIII.1.6”

The massive weight of all the circumstances and experiences running wild in our days can make our goals cloudy, cumbersome, confusing and even unattainable. At the same time, the power of liberty that carries our inner desires cannot only be forgotten but also destroyed in the mix.

Our goals and ambitions suffer because they are so entangled in premature failure due to erroneous beliefs. These will not be affected if we are determined to tap into our inner power to receive freedom to choose what we want.

Have you ever stop and wondered what do you want? And if so, have you ever figured out the ways to achieve your goals? If yes, God bless!

If the answer is no, then you need to establish your values and begin to resolve your inner conflicts.

Our inner conflicts are obstacles for fulfillment. One must have the ability to focus on them mindfully and be able to correct them or adjust them, so we can make the path to our goals smoother and ideally free of emotional baggage.

There is a practical way to overcome any obstacle in your path to freedom. It is called Incremental Change.

Freedom to know what you want is the result of personal assessments based on experiences, emotions, and states of mind. It is perhaps the most accurate way to stay focused on your life goals without any distractor.

This freedom can successfully be achieved with well-defined patience and with a systematic process of little bits of progress, including small incremental changes.

Entrepreneur Jim Rohn used to say: “Success is a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day.”

Increment your changes so slowly that you won’t even notice them.

Whatever the change is that you want to do, remember that this process is not only the exchange of one thing for the another but also the creation of new positive habits in the process.

A Quick Example: Assuming you feel that you want and need to eat better. The first thing to do is to make sure you analyze your current status of your diet. The knowing of your situation will naturally guide you to make the necessary changes to attain your goals.

Small changes in your diet will make you get to your final goal of eating better. Although incremental changes can feel like is way too slow, they are incredibly powerful, and with time they will make you reach your goal in a safe and consistent matter.

As you continue with your incremental changes and as you begin to see those goals getting closer, you will feel as if you can do almost anything.

During these moments of progress, you will be able to clarify your commitments, and at the same time, you will be able to obtain the freedom to know what you want for your life.
